I think Hamlet snapped around when he accidentally killed Polonius, thinking it was Claudius. Feeling the will to have revenge is not madness, it's human instinct. However he let his rage took over and the indecisive Hamlet suddenly became very rash and killed Polonius. Also after that he says "he deserved it" to his mother and talks with the ghost. So yes, I think Hamlet changed from an angry teen to a murderous psychopath when he killed Polonius.

I think Hamlet is not changing at the beginning of the story. I think he started changing after he talk with the ghost. That change his doing because he wants to see did Claudius actually kill his farther or not. In my opinion, I think Hamlet also watching what everybody was doing. He was acting like crazy because if he act like a crazy, no one going to care about him.
