Media is using ignorance for their good. In the first part of the article, the author had introduced that ignorance is power. It used smoking as an example to introduce how and why that the big tobacco company wanted to hide the facts that tobacco is actually harmful. This lead to the ignorance of people and when the secret memo came out, everybody is confused because they were thinking tobacco is actually nothing. However, in nowadays, many people who start and works in business start to use ignorance as power. It is safer when consumers know less. Then we can refer to that producer is powerful. Is it okay to make false information as power? And Is possible to make Bad food advertisement illegal for example smoking (cigarette)? How do people or companies with vested interests spread ignorance and obfuscate knowledge? www.bbc.com/future/story/20160105-the-man-who-studies-the-spread-of-ignorance

Businesses conceal the truth so that consumers can easily buy their products. Ignorance is pretty powerful nowadays. Because of our selfishness, I think ignorance became a part of ourselves. It is wrong to lay out false information for power, yet people do this so easily to the point where they do not care. It is funny how, even though everyone knows that tobacco is bad for our health, people still smoke. It is not good for companies to lay obscure facts to the public because it is ruining customer's health.

People always use false advertisement to promote businesses. This is basically manipulation. We experience it everyday so we need to be able to recognize the bias within the media that we see. Even news cannot be reliable at times they are still businesses that are trying to top the competitors in the category of news and current events. In my opinion it is definitely wrong to make false advertisement but don't we do in in our lives as well. By putting false informtaion about ourselves in our profiles we are advertising a false image of ourselves.

I don't believe that lying should be used for power. As Mayurika said, it is basically manipulating audiences. We are basically being tricked to benefit someone else in power. You could say that this is because of our selfish nature that we need to pick on those weaker than us. The funny thing is, usually justifying the lying isn't always right.

Of course, it is not okey to make false information as power. Ignorance is the serious issue in our society. This problem is not only for tobacco companies, but also for KFC and Mc Donald which all are very common company in our daily life. Today, many restaurants do not offer the lists of ingredients to their dishes, and this should alarm us because we do not know what we are consuming and digesting in our bodies. And thus, we should be mindful to what we eat.

It is true that businesses and corporations use manipulation to benefit but I dont think they are the cause of our ignorance. Whether we read a news article or a magazine, we are partly responsible for being deceieved. When people are ignorant, it's because they chose to be ignorant. They are not the ones who seek information and no one kept them from learning.

Well, cigaretts aren't illegal (just saying). But back to the point, businesses do use their manipulative ways. However, I'm not sure I would do any differently in their shoes. Often, wealth and power mean more to a person than morals is. In order to prevent this, I think education is the best answer. By educating, people can become aware when something doesn't make sense, thus not becoming manipulated by others

I think it's our responsibility to not get tricked on false advertisement in first place. If you buy a cigar just because the advertisement says it's very healthy, then that's your fault for not considering first. Lies are pretty big weapon that people/corporations could use and it is even used now days a lot.

It is not ok to use false information as power but I understand why business lies about their product. Business lie because they want more consumers to buy their product. By using false information, Businesses are manipulating us. I agree with Jae, to education is the key to fix these problems. Some people would rather have their child than get education to support their family. By educating, people can have more understanding of how it is get to manipulated and how to avoid it.

It is not right to put wrong information toward media. We all know this basic thing, but we are have greedy inside of us. Even though, we know it is not right, we are going for it when there is big advantage for us. I'm kind of disagree with Jay's opinion because even though people got educations, still they can be manipulated easily. Sometime we don't know we are getting manipulated. There is only one best way to avoid manipulation, we need to believe ourself before we just listen to other people's opinion or thoughts.

When I see your title, I thought of Nigeria witch trial. People are not educated so they can't recognize which is right and which is wrong and the churches are trying to falsely accused people and ask for so much money. Ignorance people are being manipulated by educated people this is one of the main reasons why people should get educated.
