Last month was the Razzie Awards. It's basically a joke award ceremony, where people nominate the worst movie, actor, director, and etc. The "winner" will take home a trophy made in pure solid fake gold that costs about 5 dollars. It's really entertaining, with 2015's worst picture being Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey.
The reason I bring this up is because there was a certain movie called Batman V Superman: Yawn of Justice, which was just terrible. I really hoped that the director Zack (or Hack) Snyder would get a Worst Director award or something. Then I thought, what did it matter? It's just a joke ceremony. The reason why we have the Oscars and other other normal ceremonies is to congratulate the successful. But why do we congratulate failure, and why is it entertaining? I really don't know. What do you think?

I pay attention or congratulate failure mostly for 2 reasons. 1 is to entertain. Seeing horribly awful trainwrecks can be entertaining, especially when you consider they're supposed to be good. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 is notorious for this, being an anniversary game but having hilariously bad plot and glitches in which you can send your character into space by spin kicking on top of a box. 2, of course, is to learn what not to do. We can learn from past mistakes. With your Batman V Superman example, I learned that movies or stories in general shouldn't cram so many plot points or moments of fan appeal to set up for following movies, but instead focus on telling a coherent story first. And Sonic '06 was bad because it was rushed to fit their anniversary. Rushing games to fit a deadline is not a good idea.

That's an interesting question. Why do we like to look at people fail, to the extent that we create specific awards for worst movies, actors...etc? I think as humans we are all insecure. And the quickest way to get over insecurities is to see someone in a worst position than us, to temporarily forget that we are in fact just like them on some levels as well. And survival I guess, competition. This brings up another interesting thought. Why is our first reaction to laugh when we are embarruncooled? For example when we fall down in public, obviously it hurts, but most people try to laugh it off and hide their pain. I think this is because we want to hide our faults so much, we automatically act as if we couldn't care less.

I've never heard about the Razzie Awards so I had to do some "research". It seems like the audience are just random people or maybe even people paid to be there. In the actual award shows, the audience is basically celebrities. I don't know if this show is official or just a parody like something on SNL. Additionally I don't think they are congratulating the worst actors and worst movies. This award ceremony just seems like a way for people who dont't agree with the Oscars, and MTVs to blow of their steam.
When can people truly feel good for someone other than themselves. We always try to find the bad in others. Can we not just be happy for them? I feel like this show is just a big joke itself because there really is not point. It just proves that humans cannot stand to watch others succeed.

This Razzie Awards just seems like an entire joke to me. Similar to what Regy said, I think that congratulating failure is just to joke upon how much of a fail that was. Mainly, when we see failure of any sort, it's just to provide entertainment. Do we really laugh or get entertainment from watching people achieve? Taking note of people's failures also helps to prevent us from making the same mistakes again (probably, unless if you're Michael Bay who's making another Transformers movie). Our mistakes are others' laughter.

In Korea, there's a quote that says Failure is the mother of Success. But as soon as I read the question, I thought it didn't really have to relate with this. I think the Razzie Awards were just a ceremony to prank and make sure the directors to notify their failure and to keep up their works next time. Also, it's just fun to make fun of them and make their failure as a joke instead of making it serious. The ceremony shows that people joke around with their failures and show them it's not a big deal. They just make them a bit embarruncooled but everyone enjoys it because every one in the ceremony has came due to a failure of something. I think it was a fun thing to watch!

this could be to both for entertainment and maybe to encourage the failures. Mainly i believe that is a joke for most of the time, but giving this type of an award could also encourage the movie makers to make better films so they won't be able to get this award next year. It could be both ways.

The whole Rammies awards itself is just a joke. To laugh at the worst movies is just an entertainment for us. I do not believe the director of BvsS will do better than what he already done by getting the worst movie of 2016 anyways. We go congratulate people for what they have done amazingly like Leonardo and his first Oscars. We don't go congratulate for anyone's failure unless you're there like 1000 year enemy from all the way up 14 generations.

I really don't know much about the Razzie Awards, but I think they mainly do it for entertaining purposes. Since really congratulating someone on failing seems to be disrespectful and breaking the social norm, although failure is just another kind of success... the wrong kind, this case seems to be embarruncooling but at the same time entertaining by the people who watched the movie anyway.

I think these Razzie awards are demeaning for those who get nominated. Acting, to them, is a profession and a puncoolion, yet people around the world feel pleasure in insulting their skills. They become the object of complaints and their acting failures are celebrated. However, I think we find these award ceremonies entertaining because it can show the imperfections of the entertainment world. Those in the fame industry are often considered to be part of a different world from the common people, and this could be some people's way of bringing them down to their level. It shows that even renown actors aren't the perfect beings they appear to be on the red carpet.

I think it is a joke or entertainment. It is a good idea that director brings up worst movie and celebrates for it because I think its better than people just forget about it. At least somepeople might interest to watch that worst movie to see how worst is it. I think people also feels more entertaining with worst and ugly ones. That's why in Korean comedy shows, people appear as ugly cosmetics and make fun of other to maintain entertaining from people.

It is entertaining because it is funny. People have fun making fun of people but it can also be a joke. If you think about it, why do you think friday night shows are entertaining. I do not fully understand why they do these awards because they spend millions and billions dollars to produce one movie but they get bad awards. I think it can be seen as a joke but some people may seem these awards stupid and heartbreaking.

It's actually interesting... I had the same question too. Why do people congratulate failure and why is it entertaining? Well, for congratulating failure, a lot of adults say that without failure, there is no success. Sometimes it is important to know how to fail. For entertainment... I think that comes from our own selfishness. Somehow we like to see other people fail while we ourselves rise to success. Or it can be that failure provides a dynamic story. Typically those stories are interesting.

I've never watched this thing but I think I've heard of it. Didn't Kristen Stewart get worst actress long time ago? Or is it a different Awards thing. I don't know but I think this is funny. People these days, especially people who work in entertainment business, should know how to take jokes so I don't think this should be a problem. It is true that people these days get offended SOOOO easily. And sometimes that makes our society grow. But now we should separate jokes and ignorance. This Razzie Awards started as a joke so people should take it as a joke.
