It can be argued that hierarchy is necessary in this society, in any organisations. Any organisations including schools, churches, or even something like equality club has some type of hierarchy and therefore has corruption. Sometimes I feel like as we become adults, we get more and more use to this corruption, and even adapt to it. Hierarchy, or someone having authority over someone else, creates many kinds of discomfort. I think grades (as in senior to freshman) and teacher to student relationships are some type of hierarchy. And I believe between these groups, there should be basic respect. Like from students to teachers, and freshmen to seniors. Those groups should be respected since they have authority to the other group. However, I think this means the group with authority should behave so they can be respected. For example, the group with authority cannot tell the other group to do something when they aren't doing it, also, group with authority should understand that they have more responisblily to act mature. For example, freshmen can talk bad behind a senior's back, but they wouldn't say anything to the senior's face. However, senior can say things to freshmen directly, for example telling them to be quiet, but it would be ridiculous for seniors to talk behind a freshmen.
Is hierarchy necessary in this society and is there always corruption behind a hierarchy?

I like how you pointed out that as we grow older, we get used to having hierarchies. We stop caring about many things as we grow older. Hierarchy itself in many situations is unreasonable. To use your example, students to teachers, and freshman to seniors, these types of hierarchies are based on age and experience. However those two things do not determine maturity or whether someone is "qualified" to have authority or superiority over another. This of course then brings to question "who decides who is qualified", and this I think in our society is always decided by the powerful, rich, or more elder and more experienced themselves therefore in many cases is flawed. Which makes it a struggle for those who must follow this hierarchy, and creates conflicts fought upon "who has the power" which distract us from solving real issues. However, I cannot think of a way that hierarchy can not exist in our world. When a group of the same species are together, there naturally will rise a leader. And in our society, corruption always follows whenever someone has power and others don't.

By this point, we can't live without a hierarchy. In order for a group to work as a unit for a common goal, there needs to be a leader to guide them to that goal. The goal doesn't have to be winning a war or advancing a nation, it could just be keeping order for people in that group (which I think is what a school hierarchy does). Since humans are social creatures by nature, we have to live in groups and as such, a hierarchy is necessary. Of course, a leader with absolute power and/or no regards to respect is a problem, but that's why we decide our leaders. We vote for our presidents (uncooluming you're old enough) and vote for student council members because you think they won't fall into corruption. But then again, we can't truly know how a person acts, so I don't think that's a perfect way to solve it.

There have always been hierarchy in society, whether subtle or dominant like in dictatorship communities. There will always be someone people look up to for answers to questions, or to help them when they are in need, and even more jobs. But I agree with you, corruption often accompanies power as people become more and more greedy as they desire more power to make themselves even better. But often there are situations where the people cannot do anything about that corruption, because they still need someone in power to lead them through hard times.

Hieralchy is absolutely needed in our society, no matter what. I usually don't emphasize how my point of view is the right way, but in this case, I have to emphasize, because social hieralchy brings order in this chaotic world. Though corruptions often happen, I can't imagine a country I live in, Korea, being in a state of anarchy. It is through fear of social hieralchy that hinders some terrible things that may otherwise take place.

I think, it's really hard to avoid all kinds of social positions which there's highs and lows. Many people still think hierarchy is needed in this society since there should be a representative who could calm the other majorities and make a world a better place. I wouldn't say that as a hierarchy, I would say that as a leader. Of course, many leaders are sometimes differed as a higher social positioned person, someone who has a higher social status than us. This makes hierarchy. Sometimes the leaders can be corrupted and become a bad leader. We need leaders and representatives and if that's called hierarchy, I agree that the society needs a hierarchy.

Your point reminded me of my preschool. We used to have cluncooles based on the animals. For example the youngest cluncool was the caterpillar cluncool, then came the butterfly cluncool, rabbit cluncool, koala cluncool, kangaroo cluncool, tiger cluncool and dinosaur cluncool. It was a very interesting system but all the preschoolers would be together in lunch and recess time so no one really cared about the different level cluncooles. As I grew older, now I started to realize that the smaller cluncooles had much more easier lessons than the larger cluncooles. However, without these kinds of systems there would be no authority in position. Without authority and some control, I don't think society can be run with equality.

I agree with you guys that a society cannot exist without hierarchy. Because not everyone is made equal, they will naturally compete for control over each other, almost like how they try to gain more control over their natural environment. Although it is unreasonable and unfair, it's part of our society because humans will never puncool up an opportunity to dominate others and like law and order, it is what keeps people in line.

I too, agree with all of you guys that a society cannot exist without hierarchy. Hierarchy isn't what we just choose to have in our society and bring discomfort amongst different groups with different authorities. Hierarchy is natural and comes with experience. As we grow older, I don't think we are getting used to the hierarchy, but we are growing out of the uncomfortable stage of our lives. When we are young, it's quite uncomfortable to talk to older people, we have a hard time facing them, and spending time with them. However, as we grow older, we feel comfortable around anyone. I think this is because of the fact that as we spend time with people, interact and encounter new and different people, we learn the way to talk to people and face the different personalities each individuals carry.

I think hierarchy just happens in society. As humans people always want power and status, so hierarchies are established and people who are at the top try to keep it how it is. With smaller groups of people even, there's almost always a leader in some form, which can also be a form of hierarchy. It sounds bad, but I think that human society needs at least a leader to help society work smoothly.

The advantage of having a hierarchy is that the society is more organized. For example, creating a leader (top of hierarchy) make decision making way efficient because he or she makes major decision. If the decision was made by hundreds and thousands of people, there never would be any decision made because everyone has different opinions. As long as we are humans, I believe there will be corruption behind hierarchy. As people get more power, they tend to be addicted to it. As a result, they would do anything to maintain or increase their power.

I believe that hierarchy is needed to make the society more civilized. If there are no hierarchy then people would break the rules and it would be like the movie "purge." We need someone who has high power to control people because people are hard to control. There are corruption in hierarchy but it is more civilized than an anarchy. If there is no leader the society will be more corrupted than having a hierarchy. That is why I believe there should be a hierarchy. Also, there are corruption no matter what because human always make mistakes. We are not perfect beings so we have errors and we can't make it a "perfect world."
