There's that cliche saying that life is a series of choices. I think making choices are hard. Isn't it absurd that we come into this world not knowing who we are? Our lives are full of I don't knows and yet we're forced to know, or at least come up with something, decide, whenever something comes up.
How do you know, whether to do something or not to do something? I have given this question a lot of thought in countless situations since they occur everyday. HAMLET WAS NOT KIDDING WOW. And I wish I knew. Whether if I did something it would be meaningful and I wouldn't regret it, or if I didn't do something it wouldn't matter. Or, if I tried to do something and stuck with it, it wouldn't be a waste of time, or if I listened to my "guts" and "gave up, changed directions", I would find a new world. This is where I think parallel universes make sense and we don't really have to regret. If we didn't make this choice, somewhere else we are making the choice. But if we mess up really badly in this world, and in another universe we made the right decision, we wouldn't know because we can only exist in this universe.
I don't know if this made sense. Sometimes I think, why were humans made to be intelligent animals. Do lions lie around thinking? I wonder what do they do with all that time by themselves, it's amazing!

I think it's called a conscience. Since we're somehow born as the species with intelligence, we grow up developing our a sense of ideals and what we treat as good or bad. I'm guessing Hamlet grew up valuing his father above anything else, which in turn, made him hate anyone that were on bad terms with his father, so he made his choices (plotting to kill Claudius and those who worked with him) based on that. Compare that to Horatio (I guess this is why he's a good foil), where he acts as a voice of reason and logic. If it weren't for his loyalty and friendship to Hamlet (which is part of his morals as well), he'd likely talk Hamlet out of killing the new king. Of course, that doesn't explain why humans became the only intelligent species in the first place, so who knows.
I'm not entirely convinced when it comes to parallel universes, because I think the concept exists just to boost our ego. (I likely heard this from somewhere else, but I'm not sure where) I mean, if we think of ourselves causing this new alternate reality to exist just by making a choice (something we do very often, like have you decided whether to touch your nose after reading this sentence or not, because if you considered it, congrats, an alternate universe has just been made), that's just increasing our self importance, since we're essentially creating universes depending on which pair of socks we wear to go to school. I personally don't believe creating worlds is that easy.

I agree with Regy that it's called conscience and its a coincidence that human are born intelligently however, because we are intelligent, we can make choices based on what we remember and even when we don't know from the past humans can somewhat predict what will happen. I think that is called instinct of human nature. Honestly, I think that animals and human are the same except that human are far more intelligent and animals which makes them seem different. For me, I wish that I can go back to when I was young and decide what schools I wanted to attend. It certainly is amazing that human are the only species that are able to think beyond animal instinct but, it would be better if the majority of the people can think more thoughtfully and consider the outcomes before they act. Of course, that applies to me the most so lets change yay

Humans, especially for people during our age, are lost to define their identities. We're quite not sure why we're born in this world and also, it make us choose very difficult decisions which we might regret on. We are never sure the reason why we are born in this world. However, I enjoy living this world figuring out why I was born and why I was needed to this world. We never know what to do or not. This includes morals, life choices and all kinds of decision in the world. It can be a small thing of what should I buy to a big thing such as who should I marry or where should I live! As Regy said, yes since we're born with intelligence we get learn and develop the sense of ideals and what we treat as good or bad. I don't think choosing a decision is hard at all! It all takes our responsibility and it actually makes us a better (wise) person to choose for next time.

It isn't just humans that make rational decisions or make any kind of decisions. Animals also make decisions and know what is right or wrong. For example, we know it's right or wrong by experiencing that situation and knowing what the consequences would be like. Same goes for animals, dogs, learn through experience too. They learn to sit, when to bark, when to wait, and when to bite or play. They learn where to pee or poo, and they are also really good at making decisions. For example, my dog hides when one of our family members raise their voice, it's because they are scared. I think some of the choices that we make ourselves are driven by fear. We choose that particular decision because we are scared of the other one or scared of what would happen if you don't make this choice. There are lot of variables that can come into this argument. However, we are human beings and can make rational decisions because we go through something called life, and experience just like all the other animals.

Sometimes I wish that I wasn't faced with so many responsibilities and standards to fulfill. Because of the ways that humans have developed and created easier lifestyles, there are more things to learn about. At the same time it is a fascinating thing, what the human mind can do. I imagine what our world would be like with the same human survival instincts that we started out with. We would position ourselves on the food pyramid and try to survive. If we think about it, society now is also similar to the food chain. The bigger people with more power get what they want and people in the bottom are much weaker with less resources.

I am a big procrastinator, not just for homework but I tend to avoid having to make tough decisions and stick to them. I agree with you, I wish I knew I made the right decisions. But one thing I've learned is that when you make a choice, you start to see the different routes that you could take and you get to move on to the next one. I remind myself that sometimes the wrong choice can still bring us to the right place.

True, we come in this world without having an inkling of who we are. Yet we make choices. And I think through choices, we start defining ourselves. We make the choices, and the choices make us. Through my life, I don't know if the decisions I make are right or wrong. Personally, I don't think there is a wrong decision- there is a gain in every decision we make, whether it be monetary, worldly, mentally, emotionally

WHEN I study what I want to do or have to do, it is like steps you get can lead you to now what to do and how.

I think when we know the consequences with our choice, why do we choose? When all people knew what what they do with their choices, there will be no choices in this world because no one will giving us a choice to choose. Everyone will choose what's best for them. We need to learn we had to take the consequences that we made. For example, when we decided to enjoy our own personal time rather than studying at home, the consequences will be dropping their grades than they had to take it because that's what they deserved. Instead of blaming others and regret with our choices. If I was that position I will just satisfy with that I made a good memory with friends. I think there will be no fun or desire when there is no choice or decision making in our life.

We don't know what we will choose. We just stick to our instinct or do whatever people around tell you to do. You see the consequences after you make a choice. Sure you can wonder and think hard about what this choice will do and what that choice will do. However, just thinking about the consequences doesn't mean it'll happen. We don't know what will happen in life anyways. So make the choice and deal with it. When you take a test, you study and study because you know the outcome is a score. On the other hand, when you make decisions like to choose which school you are going to, you don't know what will happen at a ll.

In my current stage of life, I feel like I'm always so sure about what to do. How do I know? I'm not sure. But I used to not know what to do. Right now, making any decisions seems to be so easy for me. I think it's because I am so sure of myself. I know who I am now and I know what I like. I used to not know and that was when I didn't know what to do either. Maybe its about knowing yourself. If you know yourself you know what to do and whether to do it or not. I guess we just gotta find ourselves.

Not gonna life but I think that we don't actually know what we are going to do. Life is random and it's unwritten. You do you by making your own decision. We usually make the choice near the deadline. We usually tend to do "We have more time so I will decide later" but when the deadline comes you go with your heart. So you don't actually know what we are doing. We are just following our heart. I like following my heart because I can feel the love in my heart.

I think that nothing is set in place. I think that we can decide for ourselves what to do. While choices are hard to make, I thin that we all can make the right choices valuing one choice of the other. It's because of our own conscious and the experiences we had. These all influence what we will choose to do and not do.

I think it is our conscience and our morals that decide what we should do. I mean, if I hold out a knife and try to stab someone, my brain will go on a red alert. I will feel super guilty to do such thing. Also our fear stops up from doing horrible and henious acts. I would never murder someone because i know I will be arrested and be sent off to jail too. So it's a combination of multiple things. Sometimes fear stops us from doing the worst kind of things. There needs to be a balance!
