Facebook link to Thomas Hardy's Profile: www.facebook.com/thomas.hardy.773124How does the role of women in our society compare and contrast to the Victorian society? Women in the Victorian society were put in positions of vulnerability. They were left to make decisions of their own when it came to growing up and moving out of the rural homes. Since may women were not able to survive off of the income of their parents they had to find ways to make easy money. Prostitution was a common money earning position that lower cluncool women sought. In terms of economic instability, our society can relate to this as well. There are many situations now where women cannot provide for their families so they turn to prostitution. However, women now have a high social position and are supported by men to get jobs in better conditions. I wonder how society will change in the years to come. What do you guys think?

Women back in the Victorian Era were seen mostly as households as they are stronger morally but physically weaker, therefore they are seen as a way to raise a new generation of children to better society and family. Women were not educated, and they were expected to be innocent for a chance to be married by a man, to which basically their goal was to marry and take part in their husband's interest and work, having very little freedom. But on our modern society today, they are free to have education, jobs, run their own businesses and could be involved in government officials such as being leaders. But women today get mistreated, such as their salary in some occupations are lower than men's salary, even if they were in the same position. Finally, in the future, there would be more respect and remove the act of sexism as it still exists today.

Women in our society have way more rights than those of Victorian Society. Victorian women were mostly confined at home because women's role during this period was to stay home and take care of children. Today, many women work outside of their homes. Even in industries that are considered to be men's job, such as politic and engineering, there are many women workers. As for the issue of prostitution, I think it didn't improve much. Although prostitution is illegal today, many women who are poor would still sell their bodies for money.

I think this days women are have more right to what they want to do. For example, woman got the right to study and think about what they want to do. In Victorian Society, they have less choices compare to this days. They had to stay at home and do house works. Their futures were so limited I think. This days, women were not willing to do the house works and go out for the money. This days, women roles are got more wide compare to Victorian Society. Still, this days, many people think we need a prostitution in the society for prevent rape. The idea of prostitution are still bad, but still we think the best way to stop rape, they need it.

Women do have more choices today, but I feel that they still dont have it all. In Korea, women rarely take maternity leave and when they do they dont take the full 90 days. Many women have been forced to leave their jobs or have gotten fired for being pregnant. Like this, women still have less choices when it comes to workplace, employment, education, etc. Some women see prostitution as their way out of poverty and sometimes they are be the only ones earning money to support their family. Women, especially poor women in the victorian era, were in a worse situation and did not really have choice which I think is why Melia from The Ruined Maid turned to prostitution.

It is true that women in today society have more freedom than that of Victorian era. They are allowed to receive education and get jobs. In Victorian era, women had to only stay at their house doing housework. Even though it is true that women have more freedom of rights today, I feel like there are still some gender bias in society. For example, as Lucia mentioned, women get fired just because they are pregnant because they do not get to have a break. Also, women get different wages than that of men.

Women do have more rights in today's society than the women in Victorian era, such as women get to vote etc. It is mostly the society that changes the role in both men and women, today the society still believes that women are supposed stay at home and take care of home stuff while men goto work and earn money, but it is not that strict as it was in Victorian culture, women do go against that norm and work and earn money. About prostitution, not only women do it in today;s society, even men do it, so culture has changed, but not fully.

Women of the Victorian era versus women of the modern era have quite distinct differences. Victorian women possessed significantly less rights as well as being considered property to men. They were only referred to in relation to their husbands, and they had to follow men's orders without question. They were expected to stay at home and take care of the household for a job while their spouses were at work. Only in rare circumstances, such as when a woman was a widow, did a female have more freedom. In the 21st century, it is obvious to see that women have more rights: we can vote, get a job outside of our homes, and be the leader of the family. Still, families are sometimes considered patriarchal, especially in more traditional countries (ex. Korea), and women are subject to unfair treatment compared to their male counterparts. We are often not given lower wages and are more likely to not be hired because we are expected to have lower performance ability.

Women back in the Victorian era had less rights than the women today. They had do housework and cannot do jobs they wanted to do. Women were often had to listen to their husbands and don't talk about their problems. In that time period, women were not even able to vote. However, today women can vote and have many opportunities in their life. I believe that it's good to give everyone rights and they can do whatever they want. Also nowadays, there are equal payments between men and women ( www.eeoc.gov/laws/statutes/epa.cfm). In the Victorian era, there were wage gap between men and women but now there isn't any wage gaps.

Back in the Victorian Era, women were far more restricted in terms of rights and boundaries compared to today. Back then, women were expected to stay at home and care for the family. They could not wear certain clothes, could not get jobs, and did not have many rights such as voting. However, today women can do many of these things and more, and women are even having high governmental positions (back then no way).
