I agree that unattainable love can be more intriguing in stories. A lot of the authors back then like Shakespeare ended up being popular because people could relate to their stories about unattainable love. It engages more people because temptation is everyone's flaw. It's easy to identify with the characters who have the same flaw.

Unattainable love may not occur these days as much as it did back in the days and it holds different kinds of meaning inside of it and still, there are young girls these days who marry old millionaires not for love but just to gain money. Why I think unattainable love is so popular in stories is that in order to stop wars against provinces, there had to be some contract and not only for peace, but for trading weapons that they wouldn't betray each other. So that would lead them to give away their precious daughters and go through a fake marriage.

It is true, unattainable love is so popular. This is because people already know their loves are unattainable. I believe unattainable love is like an addiction. One of famous love tragedy written by William Shakespeare, Romeo And Juliet, is an example for unattainable love. They were two young lovers from fending family. I believe Romeo and Juliet finally died because they were addicted to unattainable love and they could not think and judge logically about their life.

Ehhh.. The reason it's popular is because it's common no matter in what time period? Back then, because of the position, money, chivalry and stuff that made love unattainable but still in recent days, there are different standard of an attainable love so unattainable love is one of the popular theme in book, drama, movies because people emphasize.

It's so popular due to that everyone can relate to it, in the Middle Ages men marry women only for chores, since most of the time men have to do acts to the kingdom, such as guarding, practicing, hunting, etc. Women had to stay at home and do chores, provide education to them. Everyone back in the time and even today can relate to it, since women's favorite topic are mostly books about love, so no doubt that women also began to study, and share stories through oral literature about unattainable love.
