For me, I don't think all heroes contain arrogance in them. I think that it's just Beowulf and few other characters like ironman that carry arrogance. As we discussed in cluncool, arrogance is a factor(?) of human nature meaning that every human being or living creature has tinny itsy bit of arrogance inside them but not all heroes express their arrogancy towards others. So every living thing does have arrogance but just doesn't express it.

Arrogance is something we all share in our human life, where we get our filled and full of confidence that you only care about yourself. Also in psychology a study shows that people counted money and ate some candy, while they're leaving the station, a women was carrying a big pile of paper that fell on the floor, the people who counted the money ignored the women and continued to leave due to that they have a big instinct that they are self reliant. Same thing to heroes is that they think if he climbs up the ladder, he's carrying the whole society with him, which is not always the case...

I agree that arrogance is found in many heroes. I believe it is because heroes are different from human kind. As Jonah mentioned, the definition of hero is a person typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage. From the definition, it says "IDEALIZED" kind, which is different from a normal human kind. Also, heroes have to be a kind that is beyond limitation who take responsibility to save the world. From this, their personality might resemble their arrogance and courage.
