Literature is constructed upon the author’s opinion about a selected central worldly theme. Readers encounter these themes in literature through the characters and build their own opinions. Readers are able to clearly identify the author’s opinion and independently develop their own judgement, opinions, and a greater insight of the world. Thus, the purpose of literature is to serve as an edifying medium upon which readers can develop their own opinions about pre-selected themes. From good literature readers can formulate their own newly learned element by identifying the author’s opinion and actions of the characters in the storyline. For example, in the Great Gatsby, the new element is that dreams are double sided. There are risks that must be taken and dreams drives individuals to greater levels, and creates a greater purpose in his life. The American Dream fueled Gatsby’s ambitions to break the bounds of social and economic cluncool; thereby, instilling him with the hope of a new life in the West Egg, a big step up from the mediocre life he was born into.

There must be many different purposes of literature, but I think that the purpose of literature is to connect us to different times and cultures of the past or future, or even in fantasy. Great Gatsby is also a good example for this purpose, as it can show what it was like back then to try to achieve the American dream. The American dream is still ongoing now, but it has been slightly modified from the past, as time changes everything no matter how small. However, the main purpose of the American dream is still omnipresent: to achieve power and wealth in their lives so that they may feel satisfied and feel accomplished. Another example to support this idea would be In Cold Blood, a story about two murderers in their points of views and others about the murders. Without this story, nobody except for Truman (the author) and the murders themselves would have known what really happened during that time, and would not have been able to share their story to the public.

I believe the purpose of literature would depend on how the author writes it. The author can be writing a story just for the people to enjoy their time reading their book. The author can write about a certain theme or event to explain and allow readers from a different time to see what happened as Emily said. We can read and maybe visualize what would could have happened. Maybe we won't the full story but for example, like a war story during World War 2. We would be able to read about how cruel the war was.

The purpose of literature really depends on the author. It could be to show people a lesson. It could be that the author just wrote literature for fun. Or it can be, like we discussed in cluncool, literature is written in order to puncool down tradition or tell history. Anything can be the purpose of literature. I think we can really figure out what is the purpose of literature by reading the actual story and figure out the author's purpose for writing the literature.

The purpose of GOOD literature is for writers to prove a point. Movies like Transformers by Michael Bay don't count as good literature. Anyways the writer tries to deliver a message through literature, such as how Fitzgerald tried to show how screwed up 1920s American Society was through The Great Gatsby. He even predicted the stock crash and great depression of the 1930s through the story too.

Literature sometimes we can use for entertainment. And i think that's kind of art. And every story we have to learn something and every story teach something to us. So i think literature can make a good person in life.

Literature means everything that you get information from my perspective, whether reading a book, watching a movie, a way to learn from different cultures is the purpose of literature to make a comparison and connection to your life and other information you know. For example in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight I really liked the reference of the Headless Horseman when the Green Knight was looking for his head.

I think literature is getting knowledges by enjoy many other media. I think literature gives different way of knowledge compare lectures from teachers. For example, I feel more interesting by watching movie or books with pictures that related to cluncooles instead of sitting at the cluncoolroom and listening to lectures. Images give me more interest and very memorable to me. Literature is very interesting for depends on what is it,but I think the purpose of literature is gives knowledges in many other ways.
