Something on my mind when I read Don Quixote is that he's pathetic compared to every other knight in fiction. He has a blunt lance, rusted armor and little combat experience. His ramblings also imply that all he does is read about knights, so he never had actual practice as a knight. He even gets beat up by a single knight-errant in chapter 4. But, multiple times, he has shown "strength" in a way that makes me wonder its definition. He is completely unfazed by any threat (in the hotel), and stood up moments after being attacked by the knight-errant, ready to continue his journey. He's also very threatening to other people (the attack he did at the hotel was enough for them to be wary of Quixote, and he threatened an abusive farmer with just words), so he can't be a complete weakling to everyone.
So, any idea which one it is? I can't tell, since he feels like a walking contradiction (lives in a village yet uses needlessly complex words, uses horrid equipment but views self as magnificent), so I hope there's a better answer out there.

This is a really interesting thought you brought up. I never really thought about the way Don Quixote acted compared to the words he spoke. Especially when he told the two "princesses" that he would save them from any trouble that happens in the future. However when he hurt the two boys that came into to help him with his horse saddle, he wasn't aware that they were innocent. For me, Don Quixote is quite immature and weak in the area of making decisions. He comes to conclusions too fast and this is not a quality anyone mature possess. I have no problem with his imagination about dragons and castle because that's not what makes him immature and weak, it's his choices.

I think he is just a delusional old man. Not kidding but I guess you can never know because he might be actually strong who knows? Maybe his strength is not that great, with his intelligence from reading many fighting books, he might know many tricks of how to win a battle. Nobody knows. buuuut according to the story we've read so far, he is just a crazy dude who knows lots of complex words and no responsibilities.

I think Don Quixote is weak, but his bravery make up for it. He himself is very weak, as shown in many parts of the story. He gets beaten up, have rusty armor and is often described as old and delusional. However, he is not scared to fight anybody and he stands up after being attacked by the knight-erran because he is confident and brave. That is why we cannot definitely describe him as weak, because he appears strong. This shows one of the moral in this story; as long as you are brave and confident you can make up for your lack of power.

I think that Don Quixote is weak in that he actually tries to appear strong. Even though he might be a smart man, he is delusional. However, thanks to his delusions, he can do brave and crazy moves. I just really think that, like sunny says, brave and confidence can cover up our weaknesses.

He is physically weak that's for sure. His mind his not weak, because he is so delusional he is not scared by others. So his heart is strong, ironically, even though he seems to be almost stupid. Being delusional helps a lot I guess.

I think that Don Quixote is weak in mind, as he let himself become absorbed into his fantasy stories which led him to think the absurd idea that he must become a knight, and therefore set off on his journey to do just that. He is very immature compared to others his age, as he is already 50 years old and should be thinking about retiring, not setting off on this crazy journey. However, his heart is brave as he becomes determined to continue his journey no matter what obstacles there are, even his age, which would pose a problem for most people. He is also pretty physically strong, as he was able to break a man's head into 4 pieces, which is probably not an easy feat.

I'd say Quixote is a mad genius, he really popped his bubble as being called a couch potato on his time to do something that he always fantasized about and switched his fantasy to reality, and reality to fantasy. Mentally he already gained what he needed from different heroic literature, as in the physical side... he needs time, but I really admire his idea of venturing the land.

I think that Don Quixote is weak in that he let all these delusional thoughts take over him. I agree with Emily that he may be weak minded as he does not give a rational reason behind his every action. He does things that harm the people he encounters throughout his journey and continously acts out selfishness. His is blinded by his disillusions of what he thinks will make him happy.

I don't think that he is strong because he thinks and acting like a strong man. In his imagination, he is brave and strong like other heros. I think that he is strong with his imaginations and crating stories. I think he will become a storng man, when he becomes a writer

he is weak but in some points he get strong , there is a say ' behind weakness a strong steps' .. he is confident and he keep doing what he want and fight for his believes and even when he act like an strong man that does not make him strong but make him at lest he tried . and he like to write and read books and stories so he is not that really strong physically but he might be strong in education side
